You’ll have read in a previous post that I started doing stand-up comedy a couple of years ago. One of the best things about it has been meeting so many fabulous funny women and making new friends!
One of those fabulous funny women is Jo Phaure, who’s performing her debut solo show at Faversham Fringe this month (which is run by another fabulous funny woman, Ribs Norman).
Jo asked me if I could help promote her show and, as I couldn’t be bothered to write a post about it, she wrote one herself.
Over to Jo!

Faversham Fringe Festival 2024
Faversham Fringe starts next week and runs from 4-27 October. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see comedy, theatre & culture at a brilliant price, with tickets starting at just £6. Whatever you’re into, it’s a great place to indulge a creative interest or find something a bit different.
However, with over 70 shows to choose from, it’s also a little overwhelming to decide just what to see. So here I am to take away the strain of curating your own cultural smorgasbord with my pick of the best of the fest!
5 Comedy Shows to See at Faversham Fringe
It is insanity to me that in 2024 there’s still debate on the internet, and not even in the dingy dank corners where it deserves to be relegated, about whether women are funny, but if you were to go to see any of these shows you’d be in absolutely no doubt. These women are hilarious!
My Year of Dressing like the (late) Marquess of Bath (and other extraordinary tales) – Lucy Pook
Comedian Lucy Pook meanders through a narrative journey from minimally to averagely important ‘cultural’ figures, superficial art theory, and feminist light content. You don’t want to miss her show at The Mayor’s Parlour on 13 October at 4pm. Click for tickets.
I hate to boast but… – Jo Phaure
On 13th October at 4 pm in the Alexander Centre, Jo Phaure, I hate to boast but… (full disclosure: obviously this is my show and clearly not only do I think I’m funny but I’m apparently boasting about it!) Ably hosted and with a whip smart set from Genevieve Pepper and featuring the comedy songs of Neil Long, this show will be a fast-paced, ex-rated round-up of my neuroses, failings & exes. Trust me, I’ve nothing to boast about but plenty to laugh at! Click for tickets.
Foot Putter – Maja Bloom
Foot Putter a show by Maja Bloom at the Alexander Centre: Mayor’s Parlour, Faversham, ME13 8NZ. 4 pm on Sunday 20th October. No, I didn’t know what a foot putter was either, no you don’t need to be a golf fan. In Maya’s one woman show, she will answer the difficult question of what to do when you never belong anywhere? Maja shares her unlikely story of being an autistic, multicultural Brit with optimism, vulnerability and some tips for other ‘foot putters’. A funny and idiosyncratic view of the world, well worth the ticket price. Click for tickets.
The Kink and I – Jezebel Pye
Sat 26th October in the Mayors Parlour, 8.30 pm at the Alexander Centre, Faversham. Famed dominatrix, comedian, writer, witch and mental patient Jezebel Pye unpicks the world of kink and shares her lurid experiences. You will wince, laugh and throb. Not a dry seat in the house. This show will absolutely be a filthy, funny celebration of all things kink! Click for tickets.
Mumorial – Ribs Norman
Saturday 26th October 5.30 pm at the Arden Theatre. Mumorial, by Ribs Norman, promises to be a heart-warming (and very informative) one-woman show about perfectionism, procrastination, and joy. Ribs is an introverted autistic woman which leads me to believe this show will have the fiercest amount of planning for the perfect entertaining show. Ribs is also the organiser of the entire fringe and understated powerhouse with perfect comic timing. I cannot wait to see this show! Click for tickets.
So that’s my top five diverse, funny shows by women I can say I have personally seen making audiences laugh time and time again. There’s bigger names and many more funny women in the programme but that’s my pic of the best shows of the fringe.
I look forward to seeing you there!
