Back in May, I noticed The New Writer had announced a competition for a piece of life writing. They wanted light-hearted stories, none of your misery memoirs thank you very much.
Aha, I thought – I wrote a light-hearted piece of life writing for an OU assignment (called Mooning by Moonlight – yes, it involved mooning. No, it wasn’t me doing the mooning) which will be perfect. The New Writer judges obviously thought it was perfect, too. Almost perfect, anyway, as my story won a runner’s up prize.
My prize was a copy of Lynne Hackles’ Writing for Life, which arrived accompanied by a handwritten card. The personal touch of the card pleased me almost as much as winning a prize in the first place.
Thank you, The New Writer Magazine!
